“Emex” Bicomponent Self-Leveling Floors: Preparation
In this category are included all the cast floors, epoxies or polyurethanes.
The instructions contained by these pages have only informative purpose. For detailed instructions please read the Data Sheet of the product or ask for special application instructions.
The surface preparation is the main factor in obtaining maximum adherence which ensures the exploitation durability and coating preservation. Therefore:
- The product is to be adjusted to the application temperature 24 hrs before the application.
- Before opening the cover remove the dust or any other residual materials.
- The product is to be mixed in its original packing, using a mechanical mixer in order to disperse any potential deposits.
- Filter the product before use.
- Base coats for priming will be thinned, according to the type of product, by adding “Emex” Primer Polyurethane Base Coat, “Emex” Polyurethane Diluent or any type of thinner recommended by the manufacturer.
- The A ingredient is well mixed inside the package using a mechanic mixer then the B ingredient is added according to the Data Sheet reports of the product.
Application conditions:
- The optimum application temperature for the product: 15 - 30°C.
- Approximate environment moisture max. 65%.
- The support temperature will be at least 3°C above the dew point to avoid the moisture condensation on the support, which could decrease the adherence, luster or could cause blisters.
- The products are not to be applied in bad conditions such as fog, rain, snow, wind, in the presence of dust or when the support is covered by water or ice.
- The product’s application under 15°C only after notifying the manufacturer, using special materials for this purpose which can lower the forming temperature of the layer to 0°C.
It is mandatory to check the Data Sheet of the products to obtain optimum results.

Self-leveling floors: Preparation of the surfaces before the application
The floors application on the concrete, mosaic surfaces or any kind of concrete materials used for designing floors will be done only after the corresponding preparation of the support, because this stage has a decisive influence upon the quality and lasting period of the coating. Therefore:
- Concretes or new caps (inclusively reparations) require minimum 28 days for hardening and drying before the application (except the auto-leveling caps with rapid dry); if these conditions are not met the product’s resistance will be damaged and will cause exfoliation and blisters.
- Old caps will be checked by knocking before the product’s application; if they prove to be unfit (sound empty) the cap will be cracked to the concrete in that specific area and fixed.
- Before applying the product repair the empty spots or other imperfections, preferably with epoxy lute (Epoxy Plaster “Emex”), or other product with superior adherence and hardness.
- In the case of previous coatings, these will be removed no matter their state (except epoxy paints or epoxy floor varnish in good condition, which will be polished).
- Previous epoxy or polyurethane protection coatings, both paints and floors, in good condition, which maintain their polish, will be roughed with the polishing disc tool or abrasive strips.
- In order to remove existent particles (others than epoxy) use the “Emex CM Cleaner” Varnish Remover Solution or the “Emex PC Eco” Ecological Varnish Remover.
- Old layers can be removed by polishing with mechanical brushes or by burning.
- Every type of old coating removal operation will be followed by polishing.
- Mold affected areas will be cleaned and impregnated with special anti-mold solutions.
- The surfaces to be covered with two component floors will be cleaned and degreased, roughed and the resulting dust will be removed with soft brushes or by blowing with compressed air.
- The surfaces have to be smooth, pain and dry to 4% moisture.
- Before applying the floor, apply “Emex” Primer Epoxy Base Coat or the “Emex” Primer Polyurethane Base Coat.

Bicomponent Self-leveling Floors: Application
The product will be applied on the support surface only after its preparation according to the instructions in the previous tab, or according to the Data Sheet based on the type and condition of the support.
The bicomponent self-leveling floors application, which can be found at page “Floors and Traffic#8221;, both epoxy and polyurethane, will be done by casting and dispersing them with combs or special pullers, which have the option of setting the teeth level.
A correct application of bicomponent self-leveling floors, necessarily need to follow the following steps:
- The product is prepared according to the instructions.
- The surface is prepared according to the instructions.
- Before casting the floor apply “Emex” Primer Epoxy Base Coat or the “Emex” Primer Polyurethane Base Coat, according to the type of floor.
- After is has dried (12-30 hours) prepare the two components floor according to the preparation instructions from the previous tab or from the Data Sheeta.
- Very important elements:
- the mixing report is gravimetric NOT volumetric.
- mix only the quantity to use during its feasibility time of the mix (pot-life) listed in the Data Sheet.
- We do not recommend applying the product under the limit of + 150C because it’s drying time can be uncontrollable prolonged, to be done only under the manufacturer’s supervision.
- The bicomponent floor will be cast and dispersed with the puller. The final height is given by leveling the puller’s teeth.
- After dispersing, the air from the casted layer will be removed by using pin roles. To step on the fresh floor use only special nail shoes.
- In case of non-slip floors such as thePardoseala Epoxidica Antiderapanta “Emex”, or the “Emex” Epoxy Non-Slip Floor apply excess quartz and level up. After drying remove the excess and cover the floor with a final coat of paint or polish.
NOTE:The bcomponent self-leveling floors in contact with water during the preparation stage/ the application will suffer irreversible damage and the resulting quality will be significantly affected.
These instructions refer specifically to epoxy or polyurethane floors.
