“Emex” Floor Paints : Preparation
This category includes floor paints such as: Epoxy Floor Paint, Polyurethane Floor Paint or Chlorinated Rubber Floor Paint.
The instructions contained by these pages have only informative purpose. For detailed instructions please read the Data Sheet of the product or ask for special application instructions for each product, from the manufacturer.
The surface preparation is the main factor in obtaining maximum adherence which ensures the exploitation durability and coating preservation. Therefore:
- The product is to be adjusted to the application temperature 24 hrs before the application.
- Before opening the cover remove the dust or any other residual materials.
- The product is to be homogenized in his packing using a mechanic mixer.
- Filter the product before use.
- According to the type of paint, its thinning is made by adding “Emex” Epoxy Thinner, “Emex” Poly-urethane Diluent or the “Emex” Chlorinated Rubber Paint Thinner.
- In case of two component floor paints the A ingredient is well mixed inside the package using a mechanic mixer then the B ingredient is added according to the Data Sheet reports of the product.
Application conditions:
- The optimum application temperature for the product: 10 - 30°C.
- Approximate environment moisture max. 65%.
- The support temperature will be at least 3°C above the dew point to avoid the moisture condensation on the support, which could decrease the adherence, luster or could cause blisters.
- The products are not to be applied in bad conditions such as fog, rain, snow, wind, in the presence of dust or when the support is covered by water or ice.
- The product’s application under 10°C only after notifying the manufacturer, using special materials for this purpose which can lower the forming temperature of the layer to 0°C.
It is mandatory to check the Data Sheet of the products to obtain optimum results.

Paints for pavingi: Preparation of the surfaces before the application
The product application on concrete, mosaic or other types of support materials for Paving Paints is done after the corresponding preparation of the support because this stage is decisive for the quality and durability of the painting. Therefore:
- Concretes or new caps (inclusively reparations) require minimum 28 days for hardening and drying before the application (except the auto-leveling caps with rapid dry); if these conditions are not met the product’s resistance will be damaged and will cause exfoliation and blisters.
- Old caps will be checked by knocking before the product’s application; if they prove to be unfit (sound empty) the cap will be cracked to the concrete in that specific area and fixed.
- Before applying the product repair the empty spots or other imperfections, preferably with epoxy lute (Epoxy Plaster “Emex”), or other product with superior adherence and hardness.
- In the case of previous protections, these will be removed no matter their state (except the epoxy paints and floors or the polyurethane paints and floors in good condition, without exfoliation, blisters or efflorescence, which will be prepared through grinding).
- Previous epoxy or polyurethane protection coatings, both paints and floors, in good condition, which maintain their polish, will be roughed with the polishing disc tool or abrasive strips.
- In order to remove existent particles (others than epoxy) use the “Emex CM Cleaner” Varnish Remover Solution or the “Emex PC Eco” Ecological Varnish Remover.
- To remove old layers use mechanic brushes with diamond discs or the process of burning.
- Every type of old coating removal operation will be followed by polishing.
- The surfaces to be covered with paints for paving, will be cleaned and degreased, roughed and the resulting dust will be removed with soft brushes or by blowing it with compressed air.
- The surfaces have to be smooth, pain and dry to 4% moisture.
- Before the paint application, apply “Emex” Primer Epoxy Base Coat, “Emex” Primer Polyurethane Base Coat, or the “Emex” Chlorinated Rubber Filling Rough Coat.

Paint for Paving: Application
The product will be applied on the support surface only after its preparation according to the instructions in the previous tab, or according to the Data Sheet based on the type and condition of the support.
The paving paint, application, which can be found at page "Paving and Traffic Paints", both epoxy and polyurethane two components, and chlorinated rubber, is done by rolling or spraying with air-less installations.
A correct application of the floor paints has to follow the following stages:
- The product is prepared according to the instructions.
- The surface is prepared according to the instructions.
- The support moisture will reach max. 4%.
- Before painting the floor apply “Emex” Primer Epoxy Base Coat, “Emex” Primer Polyurethane Base Coat, or the “Emex” Chlorinated Rubber Filling Base Coat according to the type of paint used.
- After the rough coat has dried (!2-24 hours for bicomponent paints or max. 6 hours for chlorinated rubber paint) Prepare the paint following the specific preparation instructions from the previous tab or Data Sheet.
- In case of bicomponent paints:
- the mixing report is gravimetric NOT volumetric.
- mix only the quantity to use during its feasibility time of the mix (pot-life) listed in the Data Sheet.
- The application of the product under +10°C, is not recommended because the drying time could be uncontrollable prolonged, to be done only under the manufacturer’s guidance.
- Product viscosity will adjust depending on the type of paint used, by using thinner recommended by the producer.
- Apply the paint through rolling or air-less spraying.
- To obtain a good resistance apply two paint layers even though the covering power allows the application of only one.
NOTE:Bicomponent paints, both epoxy and polyurethane could be irreversible damaged in contact with water during the preparation/application phases, their quality being seriously damaged.
These instructions especially refer to Paint for Paving.
